Transit System’s Answer to Parking Shortages and Traffic Congestion on Alabama’s Eastern Shore

The Baylinc was introduced recently to the public
transportation system, linking Baldwin and Mobile County. This gleaming red bus, designed to represent
a trolley, took its first run last Tuesday starting in Fairhope at 6 a.m. and 7
a.m. and stopping in Daphne and Spanish Fort before heading to Bienville
square; round trips were scheduled to run in the afternoon as well.

This new bus is sponsored by the Baldwin Rural Area Transit
System and Mobile’s The Wave Transit System with hopes of giving residents an
alternative to adding to the traffic congestion of the Eastern Shore and
Downtown Mobile. Some residents will
find it a way to put less miles on their vehicles, while others should find it
more convenient than driving themselves and trying to find a parking space in
the busy Mobile area. Tickets range from
$1.50 to $3.00 one-way and if demand increases for the Baylinc transit system
than the hours and routes will expand to accommodate need.
