Orange Beach’s plans for a new waste water treatment plant
began to take effect this month after the Orange Beach-State of Alabama land
swap was recently completed. In an
estimated 18 months, the new waste water treatment will replace old facilities,
only about one-half a mile from the old location. Baldwin County Now news also reported that
this new facility will double the receiving capacity of the old one by five
million gallons per day; it will also allow for future demand of the facilities
from The Wharf, Cypress Village, and condo towers along the beach slated to be
built in the next few years.
Waste water treatment Manager Jeff Hartley indicated that
right now is the perfect time to build this facility as construction in the
city has slowed and occupation of new housing is not at its capacity. The plant will have a reduced odor with
greater efficiency and most of the surrounding environment will be untouched.
