With resort real estate demand moving at a snail’s pace in
the Gulf Shores AL market, part of the Envision Gulf Shores plan will be on
hold for four to five years. Developer
Shaul Zislin informed the City Council last month that he will be waiting on
his plans to build a multi-use tower at the city’s main public beach.
Zislin plans on building a 32-story tower with shops and
restaurants on the bottom floors and approximately 225 condo units on the upper
floors. Unfortunately, the demand for
high end condos is lagging and isn’t expected to go up for a few years, hence
Zislin’s hesitation to begin building right away. Also included in the Envision Gulf Shores plans
are providing developments at the center of the city, making the Gulf-front
into a pedestrian-friendly downtown, providing open spaces, concealed parking
decks, and stores and restaurants.
But for now Zislin will be building a restaurant at Gulf Place
expected to open in time for spring break Gulf Shore-goers. However, the City Council is hoping that
Zislin will begin building the tower sooner rather than later.
