The proposed cell phone tower on the Causeway in Spanish Fort AL didn’t make the cut this week, failing to get at least four votes from the city council. The vote was to approve a rezoning request for the near one acre property that used to host a gas station off the Causeway. Although the request only needed a majority vote of 4, it only received three in favor; the failure of approval was attributed to some council members’ concerns about the location of the tower being too visible and that it would obstruct future plans for the city to create a more recreational and tourist-friendly area.
AT&T’s request for rezoning of this location to build a cell tower has been discussed for several years before it was finally denied. The council asked AT&T to explore another location.
