In a quarterly meeting in Foley AL last week with the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, it was revealed that the economic trends in the Gulf Coast seem to be in favor despite national concerns. The reported lodging revenue for Alabama’s Gulf Coast region is $244 million which is up from $219, which was last year’s number measuring the same time period. Herb Malone, president of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau reported to the Press Register that with people being more concerned about getting the best value when vacationing, many local residents or folks from surrounding states are enjoying the Gulf Coast even more. In addition to the lodging revenue, retail sales have gone up from previous years as well, bringing in $1.14 billion which is up from $989 million from 2004.
