According to recent Gulf Coast news, the talented Baldwin Pops Band are planning on performing on Tuesday, February 7th at Gulf Coast AL’s Fairhope Civic Center.  The concert will be free of charge and is sponsored by the City of Fairhope and by a grant from Alabama State Council on the Arts.  Community members and visitors will not want to miss this opportunity to hear the Baldwin Pops Band perform with selections from famed composers such as Guiseppe Verdi, John de Meij, Pietro Mascagni, John Williams, and Leonard Bernstein.  The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday February 7th, so mark your calendars.

Some good news came from the state Department of Industrial Relations this month—Baldwin County’s April unemployment rate was slightly lower than the 2010 average.  Alabama’s April 2011 unemployment rate was reported as 9.3 percent, which is down from the comparable rate of 9.8 percent from last year’s data.  Currently Baldwin County is ranked 55 among the state’s 67 counties (ranking is from highest to lowest) for unemployment and Mobile County is at number 33.  The national unemployment rate for April was 9 percent, which puts Baldwin County close to this percentage.
