Theatre 98 in Fairhope AL’s new production of “Clue: The Musical” runs from now until May 6^th.  This creative production has the stage floor set as the classic Parker Brothers’ “Clue” game, with the usual suspects and weapons; the set spins around to depict six different rooms, one of which Mr. Boddy will meet his unfortunate end in.  The audience is sure to love the twists and turns of the plot as the ‘detective’ attempts to solve the classic ‘whodunit.’

This fast-moving play will be showing from May 2-6, with show times of 8 p.m. and a matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.  The Theatre 98’s playhouse is located at the corner of Church Street and Morphy Avenue in Fairhope and tickets are $20, with reduced rates for students.

The first annual Old Time Country Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 28th at Baldwin County Bicentennial Park.  This great event will be a “Celebration of Baldwin County’s Farming Heritage” and include a wide variety of vendors providing products and demonstrations with farming themes.  There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and opening for the new 19th century Blacksmith Shop at the Park, an antique tractor display, blacksmith demonstrations, mule and horse demonstrations and classic children’s games and activities.  Festival goers will also be able to view the park’s various exhibits including a 1910 country store, Indian lifestyles exhibit, 1800s trade house, and the Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Some exciting New Year’s Eve celebrations are coming up in Baldwin County AL this Saturday.  The annual “Moon Pie over Mobile” New Year’s event will be in downtown Mobile AL where they will hold a parade, have live bands, and the huge Moon Pie symbol will descend at midnight from the RSA-BankTrust building.  At the Alabama Music Box, live music will begin at 9 p.m. with El Cantador followed by a reunion concert with The Western Lands; tickets are $25 per person and expected to be a popular option for New Year’s Eve entertainment.  Also, catch the Orange Beach AL New Year’s Eve Bash at “The Wharf” with free admission and parking.  Family-centered entertainment will be from 10 am to 4 pm at The Wharf and live music begins at 6 p.m.; a fireworks display will start at midnight to bring in the new year.

An Eastern Shore Art Center event is scheduled for October 8-9th with a series of activities for the whole family.  The 29th Annual Grand Festival of Art will be comprised of 5 events over the course of the second weekend in October.  Included in the festivities are the Mullet Run, with a 5k and one mile fun run, the Grand Festival of Books, and the Alabama Coastal BirdFest Bird and Conservation Expo on October 8th.  On October 9th the Grand Festival of Books continues and there will also be a free bluff-top concert from the Baldwin Pops Band.  The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and features 90 local, regional, national and international artists selling their wares including woodworking, blown glass, ceramics, jewelry, photography, painting, and much more.  Admission is free of charge and it is estimated that over 20,000 visitors will attend over the two-day event based on the success of previous years.

Save the date for the 2011 Annual National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores AL which will run from October 13^th to the 16^th.  The Shrimp Festival is always a good time for all ages with plenty of things to do.  Among the annual events for the festival are continuous musical performances, a children’s activity village where kids can create their own art and be involved in other exciting activities, and over 200 artists displaying their wares for sale.  There will also be a sand castle contest, chef challenge, and a poster contest.  And of course, expect some great shrimp!

Released earlier this month, the Spring tourist data for Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism showed that a new lodging record was set.  The last record for lodging rentals was $57.6 million back in 2007, but this spring brought in $64.9 million, which is an impressive 12.7 percent higher.  According to Baldwin County Now news online, these lodging figures reveal that the Gulf Shores area is making a strong recovery, as lodging revenue is the number one indicator of tourism growth.  In addition to high lodging revenue, the Gulf Shores has also seen high gross retail sales at $167.7 million for Spring 2011.

It’s a great time to go out to the beautiful Gulf Coast AL beaches, and a newly approved Baldwin County purchase is expected to make those beaches even safer.  The Baldwin County Commission recently approved the grant-funded purchase of a two-story portable observation platform that will be used by the Sheriff’s Office and municipalities to promote higher security for crowd-drawing events throughout the county including fairs and concerts.  The approved grant totals $90,000 and is funded by the state’s Department of Homeland Security.  This surveillance system is being referred to as the “Sky Watch” portable observation deck and it features tinted windows, flood lights, and can operate on shore or generator power.  Sheriff Mack expects the portable observation deck to be used whenever needed throughout the county for that added measure of security.

This year Fairhope AL will be bringing back their annual Fourth of July Festival and Fireworks display.  The event will be held at Henry George Park and the Fairhope Municipal Pier, with viewing areas in nearby locations as well.  Festivities kick off at 6 p.m. with a concert featuring music from the Baldwin Pops Band and Roman Street and the fireworks display will begin at about 9 p.m. with the Fairhope Volunteer Fire Department coordinating safety.  Spectators can join in at the south end of the beach front park and Knoll Park and the live concert will be broadcasted via WABF 1220 AM so those on the beach front can listen to the music being played during the fireworks display as well.

The first annual Old Time Country Festival for Bicentennial Park in Baldwin County AL is being held this April 30th.  The Baldwin County Department of Archives and History has scheduled this new festival which will feature Baldwin County farming including full exhibits of tractors and demonstrations involving mules and horses as they would have been used in early farming and logging.  There will be fun for the entire family with the Stockton Horseshoe Tournament, historical children’s games such as sack races, clay marbles, and bean bag tosses, as well as demonstrations of wool carding and butter churning.  Festival goers will also enjoy food, live music, and craft vendors.  The Old Time Country Festival will begin at 9 a.m. this Saturday.
