Daphne AL Museum holds “Images of America, Daphne” book reception March 24th

bookThe Daphne Museum in AL will be hosting a reception for the book “Images of America, Daphne” this Saturday.  This highly anticipated new book will feature over 200 historical pictures of Daphne, Spanish Fort, and other Gulf Coast AL locations from Daphne’s Museum as well as from other contributor’s collections.  Also included in the book are never before published photographs with short descriptions that will highlight the significance of each photo, giving readers a visual exploration into the historic significance of the beautiful Gulf Coast area.  Penny H. Taylor, co-author of “Images of America, Daphne” will be at the event to sign copies of the book.  The event will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday March 24th.

Mobile AL’s next Mobile Carnival Museum Mystery Dinner scheduled for April 7th

mysteryMobile Mystery Dinner performances are always a popular entertainment choice year round in Mobile AL, so mark your calendars for the next dinner that is scheduled for April 7th.  This unique pairing of both dinner and performance is held at the Mobile Carnival Museum and advance reservations are required as these events fill up quickly.  The price per person is $59.00 and this includes a tour of the museum, unlimited wine bar for the duration of the evening, a delightful catered meal, and a 2 ½ hour hilarious play by the MMD Players that is sure to be enjoyed.  The April 7th Murder Mystery will be themed “Murder on the casting couch” with a story line that follows an imaginary 1927 Hollywood.  Doors will be open at 6:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7:00 p.m.; the Murder Mystery and dinner will be for approximately 3 hours and dress is casual.

houseGo into your home buying experience with a plan and you will be better prepared to find that perfect home in Gulf Coast AL.  Here are some tips to help you in your house-hunting endeavors:

  • List the desired qualities in your perfect home.  Sit down with family members and discuss what you need and desire in a new home.  How many bedrooms and baths?  What type of features do you prefer?  Have a list or a working ‘vision of what your new home should be like to narrow down your house hunting right away.
  • Research.  As a potential home buyer you have access to statistics on recent home sales, market trends, neighborhood data, and the home-buying process right at your fingertips via the internet.  Take the time to educate yourself online and ask your Realtor questions.
  • Choose a location.  We all know that location is crucial so look for homes within commuting distance of work, schools, shopping, etc.  Figure out the neighborhoods you want to live in before buying a home; you don’t want to have to resell in a few years due to commuting or other avoidable issues.
  • Mortgage Preapproval.  Getting preapproved for a mortgage lets you see how much home you can buy instead of guessing how much you can afford.  This will assist you in looking for homes within the price range of how much you are qualified to borrow.
  • Take notes.  When looking at a volume of homes you may forget or confuse the details of each home.  Don’t rely on your memory, but rather take notes on what you see in each home and keep them in a file.  It’s a good idea to make a checklist of features and just check them off and write notes beside them to help you sort out the details.

Mardi Gras Parades scheduled this weekend in Mobile and Baldwin Counties AL

mardi grasLooking for something to do this weekend in Gulf Coast AL?  Mardi Gras parades are sure to be a fun attraction on Saturday and Sunday Feb 18-19th.  Although a few Mardi Gras parades in Mobile and Baldwin Counties originally scheduled for Saturday have been rescheduled, there are still plenty of eye-catching activities planned for Sunday February 19th.  The Floral parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Mobile on Sunday, Feb. 19th, followed by Knights of Mobile parade and ending with the Order of Angels parade.  Other notable parades include the Loyal Order of the Firetruck at 1:59 p.m. in Daphne, the Joe Cain procession at 2:30 p.m. and the Mystics of Time at 7 p.m. in Mobile.   This schedule may be updated due to weather conditions, so look for more information on parades and times at al.com.

Organize closets and cabinets for a neat appearance at first glance.  Potential buyers love to look into cabinets and storage areas; so do not just de-clutter your home by stuffing it in a closet or you will risk giving the wrong impression to buyers.  Neatly placing items in cabinets and closets will give buyers the impression that you take pride in the home you are selling and have taken good care of it.

Clear out personalized items.  When staging your home for a potential buyer it is often easier for the buyer to imagine their items in the home if you do not have personal items and family photos everywhere.  A few pictures are fine, but they should be tasteful and well-placed so as not to be a distraction.
